From Black Mesa to Rogue Point: Crowbar Collective’s Next Big Adventure

Remember Black Mesa, the impressive fan-made remake of the original Half-Life built using the Half-Life 2 engine? Some of the developers behind that acclaimed project are now venturing into uncharted territory with a brand-new, non-Half-Life title. Their latest project is Rogue Point, a tactical co-op shooter infused with roguelite elements. The Legacy of Black Mesa First released in 2012 as a free mod, Black Mesa recreated much of Half-Life using the Source engine, earning praise from fans and critics alike. The project was spearheaded by a group of dedicated modders under the name Crowbar Collective. In 2015, they released a paid version of the game with Valve’s approval. By 2020, the game was fully updated to include the Xen levels and other enhancements, solidifying its status as a beloved reimagining. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited Crowbar Collective’s next project—and now it’s here. Introducing Rogue Point On November 11, Crowbar Collective and Team17 unveiled the first trailer for Rogue Point. The game’s premise? Following the death of the world’s richest man, mercenaries and corporations wage war for control of his empire. A Community-Centric Development Approach Crowbar Collective CEO and Project Lead Adam Engels emphasized the studio’s commitment to community involvement: “Just like Black Mesa, we want to heavily involve the community in our development and updates. Our community was critical during Black Mesa’s Early Access, and having Team17 as a partner for Rogue Point allows us to focus on both development and feedback.”
