Did My Quirky Cat Just Adopt a Stray Raccoon Through the Screen Door?

I’ve got a bizarre situation developing on my back porch. Around midnight, I heard a strange chattering sound coming from the kitchen door.

When I turned on the lights, my indoor ginger tabby cat was sitting calmly on one side of the metal mesh screen, completely face-to-face with a young, wild raccoon on the outside. Instead of hissing or puffing up, they were literally touching noses through the screen like old friends!

Now, this raccoon shows up every single evening at the exact same hour. Is it safe to let them interact like this?

That is an incredibly cute story, but you need to be very careful about letting wildlife get that close to your indoor pets!
