Is “Click Here” Still Effective for Website Engagement?

I’ve been reviewing different website call-to-action strategies and noticed that many businesses still use the phrase Click here in their content and marketing campaigns. While it seems simple and direct, I’m wondering if it remains effective for improving user engagement and conversions. Some experts suggest using more descriptive anchor text for better SEO and accessibility, while others believe straightforward wording performs better.

Have any of you tested different CTA phrases and compared the results? I’d love to hear your experiences and recommendations on what works best for attracting clicks and encouraging user interaction.

I’ve tested several CTA variations across different websites, and the results usually depend on the audience and context. While “Click here” is simple and familiar, it often lacks context and doesn’t tell users what they’ll gain by clicking. More descriptive CTAs such as “Download the Guide,” “Get a Free Quote,” or “View Pricing” tend to perform better because they clearly communicate the next step and expected benefit.
