The legendary life of Goro Takahashi

Goro Takahashi was born in Tokyo in 1939.

During a summer camp in high school, he came across an American soldier making leather goods. Staring for a long time,he was attracted by the traditional and charming skills and went there everyday to learn from the soldier. When the soldier finished his service in Japan,he left Takahashi with seven leather tools.

By virtue of amazing talent and hard work,Takahashi soon mastered sophisticated leather technique. And he started abusiness selling leather goods.

Then he met another guy, Jack, asilversmith. During his time with Jack, he became fascinated with silver.Leather goods decay over time, but gold and silver are always there. With thisidea in mind, Takahashi decided to focus on silver-making skills.

On a trip to the United States, he learned about the magical culture of the Indians and their unique and traditional silver-making skills. He decided to go to a primitive Indian tribe named Dakota in New Mexico to start his art journey.

As an outsider, it's unrealistic to learn technology just because you wanted to. Takahashi endured all tests set by the tribe for 5 years: training horses with no saddles, carving the body with eagle claws, and practising sun dance. After successfully completing the extremely sacred and strict naming ceremony, he was given the name Yellow Eagle (it issaid that he saw the illusion of an eagle in the ceremony), and was finally recognized by the tribe. So he began to learn the silver making skills.

Coming back to Japan in 1971, Takahashi, already askilled silversmith, moved his small leather shop in Castle Peak to Ometesandoin Tokyo, where he dedicated in making silver products.

Life did not treat him well later: fire,physical defects, no savings.... But with the help of many friends, he pieced himself together and was reborn eventually.
